About this program

The “PHYTOPHARMACEUTICAL BIOTECHNOLOGIES” master’s program within the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Technologies, Department of Genetic Engineering, offers an interdisciplinary approach, with the mission of providing theoretical and practical training to specialists in a field of biotechnology, featuring innovative and original elements that contribute to the accumulation of additional knowledge regarding the development, production, and analysis of phytopharmaceutical formulations, which will form the basis for products used in the phytopharmaceutical industry, obtained through modern methods that offer a unique alternative to chemically synthesized products.

This specialization ensures a focus on cutting-edge research in fields with an impact on the development of the national economy, enabling the genetic characterization of raw materials, the identification of specific molecules, the study of their metabolic origins, and the understanding of the principles and mechanisms that control the biosynthesis of secondary metabolites, thereby providing the scientific basis for high-quality production while also ensuring the conservation of medicinal plants used as raw materials. At the same time, strategies are pursued to obtain active ingredients under controlled conditions in cell and tissue cultures, thereby avoiding pollutants that can affect medicinal plant crops and significantly increasing the quantity of active ingredients.

The skills acquired by master’s degree graduates are in high demand by all stakeholders involved in this field and are developed through a curriculum designed to meet professional standards and align with employer requirements, given the growing number of companies focused on producing products used in phytotherapy. Thus, the program systematically aims to ensure that graduates are able to meet the specific demands of this field.
