About this program

The "Companion and Leisure Animals" Master's program aims to train specialists with advanced skills in the breeding, care, nutrition, selection, and improvement of animal species intended for companionship and leisure. The program promotes a complex vision of the human-animal relationship, emphasizing the importance of welfare, health, and the social role of animals in people's lives.

The curriculum combines biological, zootechnical, ethological, and managerial knowledge with applied elements from genetics, behavior, and modern reproduction and feeding technologies. Students learn to analyze, design, and apply innovative solutions for the responsible and sustainable rearing of companion and leisure animals.

The program offers an interdisciplinary approach through subjects such as: cynology, felinology, nutrition and feeding of companion animals, genetics and species improvement, breeding of birds and aquatic leisure species, ethology and animal behavior, welfare and biosecurity assessment, as well as courses on managing fur-bearing animals, organizing competitions and exhibitions, professional ethics, and academic integrity.

Through practical activities in laboratories, clinics, and specialized centers, Master's students acquire concrete skills for reproduction, selection, and management activities, as well as for counseling owners and implementing international animal welfare standards.

The program also develops a strong research component, encouraging involvement in projects concerning genetic diversity, behavior, feeding, and health of companion animals, with a focus on conserving native breeds and evaluating the impact of the human-animal interaction on health and quality of life.

Graduates acquire essential competencies to operate in the modern zootechnical field, possessing an ethical, scientific, and practical perspective on the relationship with animals and their role in society.
