Doctoral School of Veterinary Medicine Timisoara (SDMVT), within IOSUD–USAMVB Timisoara has been operating in this structure since the 2011-2012 academic year, but doctoral activity at FMVT has existed for over 40 years.

This tradition, already consolidated and recognized in the field of veterinary medical sciences in Romania, has been ensured by the 17 predecessor leaders, and it is an honor to mention here our Professors: Nicolae Gluhovschi, Valeriu Pintea, Octavian Popa, Vasile Tomescu, Valentin Volintir, Justin Cosoroaba, Simion Bolte, Radu Moga Manzat, Horia Cernescu, Mihai Decun, Alexandra Trif, Radu Trif, Constantin Vior, Marian Coman, Eugeniu Crainiceanu, Pavel Pop, Constantin Falca, who honored their mission as mentors, with the relentless Chronos inexorably changing generations.

Over the years, doctoral scientific research has operated alongside the Animal Hygiene and Pathology Research Center and the Institute of Comparative Medicine Timisoara, which have grouped renowned scientific personalities of the Faculty as well as young assistants, doctoral students, thus providing the framework for conducting scientific research activities and training human resources for the future.

The teaching staff of SDMVT have an appropriate level of professional training, all meeting the minimum conditions currently in force. As recognition of their professional merits, within the SDMVT body there are teaching staff who are members of the Academy of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences (ASAS), are part of academies, scientific and professional societies from the country and abroad, most of them being CNCSIS, UEFISCDI, CNADTCU, ARACIS experts, etc. Also, staff from the School are co-opted into editorial teams or as peer-reviewers of prestigious journals.

The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Timisoara provides the logistical and human resources necessary to carry out extensive research within the doctoral study program, currently SDMVT having the immense opportunity to capitalize on the facilities of the "Horia Cernescu" Research Laboratories Complex. At this moment, the research coordinates addressed within SDMVT are in line with the Institutional Development Plan of USAMVBT and are:

  • Food safety and security
  • Protection and welfare of domestic animals,
  • Prevention and control of animal diseases

Specifically, the research topics addressed within SDMVT are fully included and assumed in the Strategic Plan of FMVT, the main directions and objectives of the research addressed by SDMVT being:
