Project director: Asst. Univ. Dr. Marius Stelian ILIE
Research team: Asst. Univ. Dr. Kalman IMRE, Dr. Ionela HOTEA, PhD student Mirela IMRE
APPROVED PROJECT VALUE - 750000 LEI
Duration - 36 months – 2010 - 2013
This project proposes the following specific objectives:
Research on the etiology of hemoparasitoses in dogs in western Romania;
Research on the etiology of hemoparasitoses in dogs in southwestern Romania;
Determining the prevalence of hemoparasitoses in dogs in southwestern and western Romania and mapping the identified species;
Evaluating the pathogenicity of hemoparasites on hosts;
Identifying the main elements of epidemiology and their implications for animal and public health;
Molecular biology research on blood-localized parasite species in dogs;
Optimizing prophylaxis and control measures in blood-localized parasitoses in dogs;
The attempt to identify blood-localized parasite species in dogs in the southwestern and western areas of Romania, determining their prevalence, geographic zoning, and molecular biology research on identified hemoparasites promotes advanced fundamental research nationally, increasing the visibility of Romanian research internationally.
The research has a high interdisciplinary character. By involving young researchers in the project, an additional chance is created to obtain a stable professional position in our university and to stimulate the skills of young researchers to participate in or lead teams and manage research projects.
